A free Splitwise alternative that works offline

Splitwise is the best-known app for splitting shared costs, but its free plan now caps how many expenses you can add each day. If you just need to settle a trip, a dinner or a month of shared groceries without an account, here is an honest look at Kvit — including when Splitwise is still the better choice.

How Kvit works

  1. Create a bill and add the people in the group. Pick the currency.
  2. Log each expense: who paid, how much, and how it is split — equally, with custom amounts, or excluding people who didn't take part.
  3. See who owes whom. Kvit works out each person's balance and settles the group in at most N−1 transfers.
  4. Share the result as plain text in WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage or email. Nobody else needs to install anything.

Everything is stored on your phone. There is no sign-up, no server and no internet requirement. The method behind the numbers is explained step by step in How to split group expenses.

What Kvit costs, plainly. The app is free to download and shows ads. Adding expenses is unlimited; starting a new bill uses a credit — you get one free and earn more by watching a short ad. A one-time Premium purchase (no subscription) removes the ads and the credits.

Kvit is available in English, Russian, German, Spanish, French, Polish and Lithuanian.

Kvit is the better fit when one person is happy to keep track: a trip, a dinner, a party, a ski weekend, a shared gift — especially offline or with people who won't install an app or create an account.
